I conducted user research using Surveys and User Interviews.
The main goal during the Research Phase was to find out:
-The main goal of users when using social media apps
-Problems users are currently facing with the apps on the market
-Additional features users would like to see on their favorite apps

To help me identify gaps and opportunities in the market, I conducted a competitive analysis with the top Social Media apps on the market: Instagram, X (Formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn.
This also helped me identify Usbrellas unique features, Industry standards and practices.
I noticed that no app offered Chatrooms that allowed users come and chat about a particular topic at any time as well as platforms which allowed users teach a skill and create an income all while using the app.

I compiled all the outtakes from the research into an affinity map, then I created two User Personas, one representing people who use social media for fun relaxation ad catching up with friends.
The other for people who use social media to advertise their businesses and meet new customers.

I also created User Journey maps to help me understand the painpoints users may experience when using the product.

I moved to the ideation stage where I created POV Statements and How Might We's (HMW) to brainstorm solutions.
I then created user flows and the Information Architecture of the app.

I learnt during this project that design is really a data driven process. Taking the time to conduct user research and empathize with the user puts you in the right shoes to understand your users and design better products.
